Malaysia & Singapore

In October and November of 2022 we travelled through Malaysia and Singapore.

First we spent almost a week on the Malaysian island Penang. After that we travelled to Singapore and then back to Malaysia for a few more weeks.

Malaysia and Singapore

In October and November of 2022 we travelled through Malaysia and Singapore. After travelling through Thailand for a full month it seemd logical to go further south and go to Malaysia. So, on October 7th we flew from Koh Samui via Phuket to Penang. Penang is a Malaysian island just off the westcoast. We stayed for 6 days on Penang and from there we went to Singapore. That may not seem logical when you are already in Malaysia and plan to go back to Malaysia after having been to Singapore, but the opportunity arose that we could do a 10 day housesit in Singapore. So we went.

Our first stop in Malaysia was the island of Penang where we stayed in Georgetown. Again we had chosen a serviced apartment at Tropicana, for us as full time travellers this is really convenient with cooking amenities and a washer.

On Penang we took two days to wander around Georgetown. A city with a large Chinese community and the historic center is a Unesco World Heritage site.

Furthermore we toured around the island and visited the Kek Lok Si temple and Penang Hill. The Kek Lok Si temple is definitely worth a visit as one of the largest buddhist temples in Malaysia. Penang Hill is a rather touristic attraction. You ascend with the cabletrain to the highest area on the island of Penang where you have brilliant views and can hike through the green parts.

Although we were only just a week in Malaysia we decided to travel to Singapore. The reason we did that was because we had the opportunity to do a housesit with two cats for 10 days. That is a chance that you can not let pass by since accommodation in Singapore is really expensive. So, on October 13th we flew from Penang to Singapore, just over an hour flying time. In Singapore we stayed in a hotel for one night and the next day we moved to the apartment in Tiong Bahru for the housesit. The apartment was really nice, just spacious enough for the two of us. And the cats were really easy to look after. What a lovely basis for exploring the city of Singapore.
