“Under the Costa Rican sun, every dirt road leads to adventure, every jungle echoes life, every beach becomes home beneath the stars.”

Costa Rica

Costa Rica

In March 2022, we embarked on an unforgettable adventure to discover Costa Rica. As the world slowly reopened after Covid, we set our sights on this lush paradise, known for its incredible (and often free) camping opportunities. With a bit of research and a sense of adventure, we decided to explore the country the best way possible—by road.

After a few days acclimating in San Jose, we picked up our trusty 4×4 pickup with a rooftop tent and set off on a month-long journey that took us to some of the most breathtaking places we’ve ever seen.

From the vibrant north Caribbean coast, we explored the wild beauty of Tortuguero National Park and the laid-back vibe of Puerto Viejo near the Panamanian border. Crossing the rugged mountains to the south, we found ourselves along the Pacific coast, wandering through Corcovado National Park and relaxing on the pristine sands of Playa Hermosa.

We wrapped up our adventure with the misty cloud forests of Monteverde and the dramatic waterfalls of La Fortuna, before returning full-circle to San Jose. One month, countless miles, and a lifetime of memories.

Discover Costa Rica

Costa Rica is one of those destinations that captures the hearts of travelers with its raw beauty, vibrant wildlife, and endless opportunities for adventure. It’s a country of lush rainforests, pristine beaches, and unforgettable encounters with nature—all packed into a compact paradise that’s easy to explore.

If you’re planning your first visit, we recommend setting aside at least two weeks to truly savor Costa Rica’s magic. Whether you’re trekking through national parks, relaxing on tropical beaches, or spotting exotic animals in their natural habitat, Costa Rica offers experiences that are as diverse as its landscapes.

Start your journey in San Jose, the bustling capital. While it’s convenient for logistics, we wouldn’t call it a highlight. The real adventure begins when you head to the Caribbean coast. In Tortuguero National Park, we wandered through mangroves on a kayak tour and spotted wildlife in its untamed glory. A little further south, Punta Uva was our base for wild camping under swaying palms, and we explored the scenic coast on bikes, cycling all the way to Manzanillo, where the jungle meets the sea.

The Pacific coast offers its own wonders. Our two-day trek in Corcovado National Park was unforgettable—spotting tapirs, monkeys, and even scarlet macaws deep in the rainforest. We captured the beauty of Playa Uvita with our drone and marveled at the crocodiles lounging under the aptly named Crocodile Bridge. Crossing to the Nicoya Peninsula by boat felt like stepping into a tropical dream, where one morning, we woke up beside a sea turtle nesting on the beach.

As we made our way inland, Costa Rica’s diversity shone through. Monteverde’s cloud forest brought torrential rain, but the misty atmosphere and vibrant green landscape were worth every drop.

Costa Rica is more than a destination—it’s a feeling. Whether you’re trekking through its wild terrain, relaxing on idyllic beaches, or waking up to the sounds of the jungle, every day feels like an adventure.
