In November 2022 we spent 10 days on Bali. The original plan was to spent a full month in Indonesia but we received an offer from Australia that made us change our plans.

Read here about 10 fantastidc days on Bali and our recommendations.

Bali

Bali

On our way from Malaysia to Australia we had planned for a full month in Indonesia (Bali, Lombok, Nusa). We had already agreed to do a housesit in Melbourne/Australia from mid December 2022 until mid January 2023. But when we were making our plans for Indonesia we received the request to start the housesit earlier and we agreed. That meant that we would be 10 days on Bali which was good to us for thid period.

On Bali we stayed at three different locations: Canggu, Ubud and Munduk.

Canggu

We decided to go to Canggu because we had heard positive things about it. We had also heard that it is busy, but we did not expect that it would be so busy, the town gas exploded a bit.

In Canggu itself it is actually too busy, and with people (backpackers, nomads, fortune seekers) and also too busy with traffic. At the busy times during the day, traffic often comes to a standstill because of the many scooters.

Fortunately, we stayed in a very nice quiet accommodation (Villa Pilou) a few kilometers outside the hustle and bustle. From there we could easily visit Tanah Lot, the beautifile temple and rock formation in the sea a few kilometers west of Canggu. And we could drive west and take super relaxed walks along the quiet beaches away from the crowds.

Ubud

In Ubud we stayed in a quiet and secluded small villa about 8km north of the town. Located between the rice fields it was wonderfully quiet and with a small private swimming pool it was a great place to be.

From this place we visited Mount Batur and the region. It was about an hour's drive to Kintamali and from there you can drive along Lake Batur and around Mount Batur. There are also organized treks to the top of Mount Batur, but we prefer to do it on our own and that is unfortunately not possible.

The Tegelalang rice fields are also located near Ubud. These are best visited as early as possible at sunrise, because of the beautiful light and because of the possible crowds. Unfortunately it was cloudy when we were there, but we still spent a few wonderful hours walking through the rice fields.

Because we found Canggu really busy, we quickly decided to look further. In the meantime we had also exchanged the rented scooter for a rental car. It was now clear that we wanted to travel further north and that is really better with a car than with a scooter, mainly becausse of the distances. So when we had the rental car, we first went to explore the Ubud region. We soon found out that Ubud itself is at least as busy as Canggu, but that if you go a little outside of Ubud, it is quiet and absolutely beautiful. And that especially applies to the regions east and north of Ubud.
